Tips for choosing the right SUP pump
Your pump is one of the most important tools in your SUP setup. Without it, inflating your board would be impossible. You can choose between manual or electric pumps. Here's everything you need to know before purchasing one.
Manual or electric pump – which one should you buy?
Manual air pump
Most SUP sets come with a manual pump. These allow you to inflate your board with ease, often featuring a pressure gauge so you can see when your board is at optimal PSI. Inflation typically takes 6 to 10 minutes, depending on the pump type and your effort. Manual pumps come in two types: single action and double action.
Single action: Air is pumped only on the downstroke. It’s easier on your arms and lets you control the pressure more precisely.
Double action: Air is pumped on both up and down strokes, speeding up the process. Stardupp’s Totora and Bravo pumps both support double action, pumping up to 20 PSI and include a pressure gauge.
If manual pumping isn’t your thing, go for an electric pump.
Electric SUP pump
Electric pumps make inflating your board effortless. Set your desired PSI, switch it on, and the pump automatically stops once it reaches the target pressure. Enjoy a drink or prep your gear while it inflates.
Why we love electric pumps
Electric 12V pumps are a bit more expensive, but well worth it. You can even use an adapter to plug them into a standard outlet. Some models include a digital display and dual-stage inflation for fast and safe pumping.
Buying an electric SUP pump? 10 tips:
- Check the PSI range – most boards need 15–20 PSI
- Can it connect to a car's 12V socket?
- Does it come with crocodile clips for direct battery use?
- Is it compatible with 230V via adapter?
- Dual-stage pump: high volume, then high pressure
- Digital pressure display included?
- Universal valve connector (bayonet)?
- Can you deflate with the pump?
- Automatic shut-off at set pressure?
- Corrosion and saltwater resistant?
Parts and features
Pressure gauge (manometer)
Every Stardupp pump includes a pressure gauge so you can monitor inflation. For electric pumps, this also lets you check pressure post-inflation. Spare gauges are available too.
Valve connector (bayonet fitting)
The bayonet fitting ensures the hose stays attached during inflation. All Stardupp hoses use universal connectors that fit most SUP valves.
12V and 230V compatibility
Adapters allow you to use the pump indoors or in your car, and even with power banks for outdoor use.
Digital display
Available on models like the DUAL Pro and Connect pump, these show real-time inflation progress.
Airflow
Stardupp electric pumps use dual-stage inflation: high airflow to start, switching to high pressure near the end. They also support deflation.
More than just SUPs – other uses
These pumps are also perfect for inflating airbeds, pools, tents, kayaks, and boats. Plug it in and you’re ready for guests or adventures.
